The Christian church has one book of ultimate authority and that is the Bible. In addition to having only one book, Christians believe that our canon of scripture is closed–this means that nothing more can be added to it; that nothing can be taken away and that no leader can contradict the content of the book in a way that would negate any of it. We may have different opinions on interpretation, but we cannot change the core content.
The Mormon religion has a totally different belief regarding authority and their scriptures. They believe that foundational beliefs can be changed at any time based on the words from their current prophets and seers. They have a number of books that they consider scripture including the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, the Pearl of Great Price and the King James Bible, in so far as it is correct, according to their view.
This lesson reviews the books with a special emphasis on the falseness of the Book of Abraham. To see the PowerPoint, click on the image below. Next to it is the handout for the class. Click on it to download and print out.
