My Grandmother raised 4 kids during the Depression, mostly by herself because Grandpa was hospitalized when my mom was 12 and stayed in the hospital until a few months before they sent him home to die in his 60’s. I can’t imagine the challenges she faced because she never talked about them—she always talked about Jesus.
I do remember her talking about how she would read and memorized Bible verses. Because her life was so full and she had so little time for herself, she figured out a way to prop up her Bible as she was ironing (and with 4 kids she did a lot of that) and she would read and memorize as she worked.
Few of us have challenges like she had, but somehow we all find it challenging to find time to read our Bibles. Following is an overview and link to a helpful article:
Justin Lathrop provides some great tips in his article: “Think You Don’t Have Time To Read The Bible? Think Again”
In summary they are:
1. Wake up 15 minutes earlier.
2. Put verses where you can see them.
3. Download an audio version.
4. Keep a small Bible with you.
5. Set an alarm and take 5.
